The University Marine Energy Research Community (UMERC) is a new program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office and facilitated by the Pacific Ocean Energy Trust.

UMERC’s three main goals are to:

  • Increase awareness of research
  • Evaluate and recommend ways to enhance marine energy research
  • Improve research coordination and collaboration

A series of workshops has been planned to start working on these objectives, with the focus being on the development of a Research Landscape. A Research Landscape visually maps out the people, research, and technologies in the sector, including how they intersect and complement one another. The results of an exercise like this can help to identify and inform areas of future research needs, create connections, and minimize duplication of research.

The first workshop of the series will be held virtually on November 10, 2021, from 9 am to 11:00 am (Pacific Time). This workshop aims to engage with the community to strengthen connections and facilitate the development of an initial UMERC Research Landscape.

Visit https://umerc-us.org/workshop/ for more information on the workshop and to register.
