Data fuels the water power industry and affects everything from where to develop a pumped storage project to assessing which non-powered dams have high potential for a adding hydropower generation component.
By using the latest data from government sources, National Hydropower Association (NHA) created the Water Power Facts online tool, providing the industry, and those affecting/interested in water power, with an easy-to-access, always-up-to-date, repository of data.
Additionally, the tool features many graphs and charts displaying data on the following:
- MW by State and Region
- Renewables Capacity
- Renewables Generation (MWh)
- Owners / Operators
- Avoided Emissions
- Employment by Sector
USING THE INTERACTIVE MAP
A main component of the tool is an interactive map for use in finding plant and dam-level data.
The map includes a user-friendly interface, allowing users to identify:
- Existing hydropower and pumped storage plants
- Projects in development
- Dams in the U.S. that have the highest potential for adding a generation component
To learn more about a plant, project or dam, simply click the pin to display details, such as: capacity, ownership, balancing authority, FERC license number, etc.
In addition, users can enable/disable state and congressional district layers on the map. Click within the district or state to view the total number of plants and aggregate capacity within that area.
Check out this great new tool today and tell us how you find it useful in your day-to-day work.
