National Hydropower Association Announces 2021 Event Line-Up

NHA thanks our sponsors:

Emerson

To meet its objectives of connecting and educating the North American waterpower industry, the National Hydropower Association (NHA) offers several “public” events each year.  The 2021 line-up is available on the NHA website, www.hydro.org.

These events are available for any individual to attend (registration fees are required). In all cases, employees working for NHA member companies are eligible for reduced registration rates.

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the events occurring in the first half of 2021 will be held virtually.

Below is an explanation of each event.

Clean Currents Conference + Tradeshow, October 20-22, 2021, Atlanta, Georgia, www.cleancurrents.org.  Host utility: Georgia Power, owned by Southern Company

This annual event – which will change locations each year – is the industry-wide waterpower event in North America each year – covering all aspects of the hydro market, but focus is on operations, innovation, technology, and technical best practices.

Waterpower Week, April 27-29, 2021, virtual, www.waterpowerweek.com

This annual event – which will be held in Washington, D.C., after 2021 – has a specific focus on policy/regulations/wholesale electric markets and interaction with Congressional members and staff, regulatory agencies, natural resource agencies, and RTOs/ISOs.

Regional Meetings – typically, NHA organizes 4 to 6 of these a year in various regions of the United States

1-day events — typically in person, but pivoting to virtual until the pandemic subsides — designed to focus on content specifically relevant to a particular region of the U.S.

Each regional meeting includes a “report” from NHA – giving an update about what the association is doing for members, demonstrating why those in attendance that are not members should consider joining.

The first one planned for this year is the Southeast Regional Meeting March 9, 2021 | VIRTUAL

International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE), April 28-30, 2021, virtual, https://icoe2021.org/

For 2021 only, NHA, working with the U.S. Department of Energy, is the one-time host/organizer of this marine energy event. This event is held every two years; each event is hosted by a different country. This is the first time the United States has hosted this event.

Topic-Specific Educational Webinars

On occasion, NHA will offer topic-specific educational webinars for the industry. Examples of webinars offered in the past few months include: Digital Twins for Hydropower; Waterpower Innovation Forum; What the November Elections Mean for Hydro?; Hydro Operations & Maintenance Best Practices; and Managing Dam Safety & Risk.

Typically, announcements for these type of events are e-mailed to industry a few weeks before the webinar.

Some require small registration fees; others are complimentary.

NHA also offers “members-only” events – these are reserved specifically for the employees of NHA member organizations. More information about how to join NHA can be found here.
