The National Hydropower Association (NHA) is pleased to announce Preston Gillespie’s participation in Clean Currents as a keynote speaker during the conference + tradeshow’s plenary sessions.

In his role as Executive Vice President, Chief Generation Officer, and Enterprise Operational Excellence, Gillespie taps into over 35 years of experience in the energy field to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Duke Energy’s fleet of nuclear, natural gas, hydro, solar, and coal units with a generating capacity of over 50,000 megawatts.

During his time at Duke Energy, Preston Gillespie has also served as Chief Nuclear Officer, a role where he was responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the nation’s largest regulated nuclear generating fleet.

Gillespie’s knowledge of the U.S. energy landscape, and more than three decades of experience in the nuclear industry, will offer compelling insights when the waterpower industry meets for Clean Currents in Cincinnati, Ohio, from October 10-13.

As a long time Duke Energy employee, Gillespie has held many leadership roles across the company’s nuclear fleet. Gillespie joined Duke Energy in 1986 as an Assistant Engineer at Oconee Nuclear Station in South Carolina, where he earned his senior reactor operator license.

Prior to his current role, Gillespie held the title of Senior Vice President of Nuclear Operations, Site Vice President, and Plant Manager of the Oconee Nuclear Station, and Site Operations Manager of Catawba Nuclear Station in York, South Carolina.

In these roles, Gillespie directed station and facilities management, operations, maintenance, chemistry, radiation protection, engineering, nuclear and industrial safety, and business operations.

Currently, Gillespie serves on the board of directors for Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited, and he’s a member of the National Nuclear Accrediting Board for the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations.
