The April issue of Hydro Leader is here! At times, hydropower does not get the credit it deserves, overshadowed by popular technologies such as wind and solar. But as anyone who is familiar with the grid can tell you, hydropower already provides major portions of our nation’s energy needs and is foundational for the integration of new green energy resources. In our cover story this month, we are pleased to interview John Hairston, the CEO and administrator of Bonneville Power Administration, which markets power from a federal fleet that provides nearly 30 percent of all electrical power in the Pacific Northwest. Great video from the National Hydropower Association which demonstrates the importance of hydropower and the role it has to play in the clean energy grid. Hydropower is often the 'forgotten' renewable energy source for a number of reasons, being overshadowed by the rapid growth and public attention given to other renewable sources like wind and solar power in recent years. There is also a perception that most economically viable hydropower sites have already been developed, limiting further growth potential. This is of course incorrect. In the US alone for example, a DOE assessment found that adding hydropower generating equipment to existing non-powered dams could provide up to 12GW of new hydropower capacity from around 50,000 suitable dams currently used for other purposes like water supply regulation. That's why spreading the word on the potential and benefits of hydropower is so important. #hydropower #hydroelectric #cleanenergy #withhydropower

#Hydroelectricity, from a perspective of #sustainability standards, must return to continue within the priorities of the energy matrix of the countries, not only because they are also #renewableenergy at low cost, but because it facilitates the growth of intermittent renewable energies in the electrical system, offering #flexibility and #reliability.
