At today's "Oversight of FERC: Adhering to a Mission of Affordable & Reliable Energy for America" hearing, Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) used her introductory comments to reflect on the importance of #hydropower licensing reform. Yesterday, Representative McMorris Rodgers introduced the "Hydropower Clean Energy Future Act" to expand clean, renewable, reliable, and affordable hydropower production in America, as well as to promote the innovation of the next generation of hydroelectric technology. NHA appreciates Representative McMorris Rodgers' longstanding and vocal support of both hydropower and hydropower licensing reform.

It's encouraging to see the Hydropower Clean Energy Future Act progressing. Among other things, the bill would help streamline the hydropower licensing process while improving communication between federal agencies. #hydropower #cleanenergyfuture #pumpedstoragehydro #renewableenergy
Next week, Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ (R-WA) Hydropower Clean Energy Future Act, H.R. 4045, moves forward to a full-committee markup in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The Hydropower Clean Energy Future Act would expand clean and renewable #hydropower production while promoting innovation in the next generation of hydroelectric technology. Additionally, the bill would help streamline the hydropower licensing process while improving communication between federal agencies. The April issue of Hydro Leader is here! At times, hydropower does not get the credit it deserves, overshadowed by popular technologies such as wind and solar. But as anyone who is familiar with the grid can tell you, hydropower already provides major portions of our nation’s energy needs and is foundational for the integration of new green energy resources. In our cover story this month, we are pleased to interview John Hairston, the CEO and administrator of Bonneville Power Administration, which markets power from a federal fleet that provides nearly 30 percent of all electrical power in the Pacific Northwest. We speak about the critical role that reliable, zero-carbon hydropower plays in integrating variable renewable resources and responding to challenging conditions such as the January 2024 cold snap. We also discuss other top issues, such as the Columbia River Treaty and electrification. https://bit.ly/3xIjbrO #HydroLeader #Hydropower #GreenEnergy #BonnevillePower #JohnHairston #RenewableEnergy #SustainableEnergy #EnergyIntegration #ColumbiaRiverTreaty #ZeroCarbonEnergy

We are so excited, and proud, to be a part of this pioneering new agreement to integrate power generation capabilities into existing dams that currently have no capacity to generate electricity. There are over 90,000 dams in the U.S. built for flood control, irrigation or navigation purposes that currently have no capacity to generate electricity. Modernizing these dams to integrate power-generation capabilities will create low-impact, clean energy sources that are cost-effective and an environmentally sound approach to greening the grid. In addition to buying power from existing clean energy projects, Iron Mountain Data Centers is committed to long-term power purchase agreements that result in the development of new carbon-free projects that can directly support our data centers there. #sustainability #cleanenergy #powergeneration #datacenter #datacentersolutions
We are pleased to share that we're partnering up with Rye Development in a new type of #Hydropower energy agreement that supports our 24/7 Carbon Free Energy goals! The groundbreaking off take agreement – the first of its kind in the hydropower industry – will speed the development of more than a dozen low-impact hydroelectric projects in Pennsylvania and West Virginia over the next decade and help us move closer to achieving our #datacenter sustainability goals. Great video from the National Hydropower Association which demonstrates the importance of hydropower and the role it has to play in the clean energy grid. Hydropower is often the 'forgotten' renewable energy source for a number of reasons, being overshadowed by the rapid growth and public attention given to other renewable sources like wind and solar power in recent years. There is also a perception that most economically viable hydropower sites have already been developed, limiting further growth potential. This is of course incorrect. In the US alone for example, a DOE assessment found that adding hydropower generating equipment to existing non-powered dams could provide up to 12GW of new hydropower capacity from around 50,000 suitable dams currently used for other purposes like water supply regulation. That's why spreading the word on the potential and benefits of hydropower is so important. #hydropower #hydroelectric #cleanenergy #withhydropower

#Hydroelectricity, from a perspective of #sustainability standards, must return to continue within the priorities of the energy matrix of the countries, not only because they are also #renewableenergy at low cost, but because it facilitates the growth of intermittent renewable energies in the electrical system, offering #flexibility and #reliability.
Today was the launch of the European Hydropower Alliance. This launch involved an engaging conversation with Commissioner Simson and us, EDP EDF Enel Green Power ENGIE Statkraft Vattenfall Fortum Uniper and VERBUND AG. As an alliance, we ask for an EU hydropower strategy, the inclusion of hydropower in the list of strategic technologies in the Green Deal Industrial plan and overall fair treatment of hydropower in EU policy and legislation Hydropower has the potential to play a key role in the renewable energy sector, and we are proud to form part of this alliance and looking forward to working together. #Hydro4EU #EUHydroAlliance
