Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources, announced two West Virginia projects will receive over $2.5 million, commenting, "For generations, West Virginia’s rivers have been a crucial source of clean and reliable hydroelectric energy." Additionally, as part of the funding announcement, DOE and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory released the reimagined Hydropower Vision Roadmap, which lays out the path for U.S. hydro to grow its current 101 GW to nearly 150 GW of combined electricity generating and storage capacity by 2050.
