NHA URGES PASSAGE OF COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY BILL

NATIONAL HYDROPOWER ASSOCIATION URGES PASSAGE OF COMPREHENSIVE ENERGY BILL

Washington, D.C. (December 11, 2020) – Malcolm Woolf, President and CEO of the National Hydropower Association (NHA), today issued the following statement on Congressional negotiations to finalize energy legislation:

“NHA strongly urges passage of a comprehensive, bipartisan energy bill that enables all forms of waterpower (hydropower, pumped storage and marine energy) to help accelerate the nation’s transition to a carbon-free electricity grid. With a short window left in the calendar year, Congress has the rare opportunity to approve meaningful legislation that will incentivize development on existing non-powered dams, support energy storage technologies like pumped storage hydro, and invest in the research, development and deployment of new marine energy devices. These resources provide substantial clean, renewable power and help integrate greater amounts of wind and solar energy generation while maintaining grid reliability and resilience.

“NHA appreciates and commends the bipartisan work by House and Senate committee leadership and staff to bring the bill to where we are at today. As negotiations continue, NHA encourages Congress to seize the moment and pass comprehensive legislation that fully leverages our domestic waterpower resources to create new economic growth and a clean energy future.”
