NHA Statement on President Trump’s FY18 Budget Proposal

Washington, D.C. (May 23, 2017) – The following is a statement from Linda Church Ciocci, Executive Director of the National Hydropower Association, on President Trump’s FY 2018 budget proposal:

“Given the critical role hydropower plays in our nation’s electric grid, we are disappointed to see the drastic funding cut proposed for the Energy Department’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) in today’s budget proposal. In coordination with the national labs, academia and industry, the WPTO works to foster private sector innovation and accelerate the development of hydropower, pumped storage, marine energy, and conduit technologies.

“The Department of Energy has demonstrated through the Hydropower Vision report that we can sustainably grow hydropower production by 50 GW by 2050, and put the nation on a new path to creating nearly 76,000 good paying jobs and boosting local economic activity.

“As Congress works through the FY 2018 appropriations process, we encourage members to make waterpower technologies a priority, as we work revitalize and reinvest in the nation’s clean energy and water infrastructure.”
