Tony Geagea has done it again! I am super proud of tony for yet another conference paper accepted for Buildimg Simulation 2023; 18th International IBSA conference to be held in september in Shanghai; China “Net-Zero individual House: Investigating passive retrofitting scenarios in warm Mediterranean climate. Highlights • Passive retroffiting strategies for energy reduction. • Enhancing building’s thermal performance. • Decrease energy consumption for summer cooling. • Using solar radiation to mitigate energy consumption.

Congratulations to Hadi Hajibeygi. On 12 December last year, he was appointed professor in Geo-Energy Solid and Fluid Mechanics at TU Delft. “My goal is to enable the biggest battery under our feet and upgrade it to a geo-reactor, where you do not only store, but also mix, create and extract what you need in a green world!” 🔋 Hadi is working on storing green energy carriers, such as hydrogen, safely and effectively in the subsurface reservoirs. This research also enables safe and effective gigaton storage of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide; and effective geothermal heat production. It takes a surprising amount of sleuthing to figure out locations for Class VI permits (key to #CCUS). Nice work by our Enverus Intelligence Research team to put it all on a map (along with emissions sources and potential sinks). Bringing transparency, availability and usability to the data behind #energytransition is critical for decision makers investing in #lowcarbon technology.

We're proud to be one of more than 50 public and private partners in a statewide effort that has won the largest and most competitive grant ever awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) up to $160 million over the next 10 years. The NSF Louisiana Transition Engine (NSF Engines) grant is focused on energy transition and decarbonization of Louisiana’s industrial corridor and will support Future Use of Energy in Louisiana, or FUEL. FUEL is driven to focus on influencing three core functions: Use-Inspired #Research and #Development, #WorkforceDevelopment, and Translation of #Innovation to Practice/Technology #Commercialization. CCUS has gathered impressive momentum over the past two years as companies seek to exploit the technology’s economic and environmental benefits. In the U.S., the number of Class VI well permit applications for permanent geological CO2 storage surged by 40, or 800%, between May 2021 and May 2023, owing largely to enhancements to the 45Q tax credit. Despite the rise, the EPA and company websites provide limited transparency on proposed injection well locations. • The Energy Transition Research team utilized additional disclosure from various data sources to obtain geographic coordinates for 45 active, pending and withdrawn Class VI applications (Figure 1). • Out of the 45 applications, 30 projects (67%) have known geographic coordinates, while the remaining 15 projects had their coordinates inferred using public disclosure. • This information is crucial for competitor intelligence, activity screening and infrastructure buildout workflows in the CCUS sector. It provides valuable insights for project developers, service providers and investors who are actively involved in CCUS projects.
