As Alaska’s largest source of renewable energy, hydropower supplies more than 20 percent of the state’s electrical energy in an average water year. There are nearly fifty operating utility-scale hydroelectric projects in Alaska. The majority of Alaska’s existing hydro projects are located in the southeast and southcentral regions of Alaska.

  • Status report on hydro project development and lessons learned about permitting/licensing
  • The latest on workforce recruitment, retention, and training
  • Case studies on the use of small-scale storage, marine energy, and new technologies to enable displacement of diesel-powered generation

Tour Information


The Alaska Energy Authority is offering a tour that includes both the Eklutna Hydroelectric Plant operated by Chugach Electric and the South Fork Hydroelectric Project owned by Dan Janke.

You will have the opportunity to RSVP for this tour when you register for the event.


A bus will be provided. More details to come.


Please bring a government-issued photo identification.

Dress Code

Close-toed shoes are required and work boots are highly recommended. No sandals or heels. No loose or baggy clothing.
