Missouri River Energy Services has announced its plans to build a hydroelectric facility at Lake Red Rock.

Earlier this year, KNIA/KRLS News spoke with Nelson Energy, the company who spearheaded development of the project, after they were granted a license by the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee.

Robert Larson of Nelson energy says Red Rock and the surrounding area are great resources. Output will be about 36 megawatts of electricity, with the ability to generate as much as 55 megawatts.

Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini says the project will provide a tremendous economic impact to the area over the course of construction, by providing as many as 700 jobs.

Construction is slated to begin in 2013, and the plant should be online by 2016.
