  • Critical Infrastructure Protection Compliance for the Hydropower Industry Webinar
    March 20, 2014, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Eastern Time

Over the past couple years NHA has alerted you to the increasing concerns and attention being given to cyber security and the risk cyber attacks pose to operations at hydro facilities and the larger electric grid.  In 2013 alone, President Obama issued an Executive Order, Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, a Presidential Policy Directive, Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience, and the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology began developing a Framework to Improve Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.

Around the same time, NERC submitted to FERC Version 5 of the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Reliability Standards, which FERC approved in November in Order 791.  Many hydro operators have stated that they do not fully understand the impact the new rules will have on their operations.  CIP Version 5 is substantially different from previous versions of CIP and will include far more hydro operators than past versions of the CIP standards, requiring a significant level of effort and resources.

We recognize that hydro owners and operators have many things on their plate and the adoption of a host of CIP controls will be just one more item to juggle.  NHA wants to help you prepare for the new CIP requirements.  As such, we have partnered with Grid Subject Matter Experts (GridSME) to host a webinar on March 20, 2014 for a discussion on the impacts of CIP Version 5.  GridSME is an NHA member company based in Folsom, CA.  They are strategic consultants and have a wealth of experience with the CIP standards and is currently working with several NHA members to facilitate their CIP Version 5 adoption and compliance.

Please feel free to share this webinar opportunity with your colleagues.
