  • 2016 NHA Relicensing Summit
    November 15-16, Washington, DC

NHA’s Regulatory Affairs Committee and Small Hydro Council are pleased to open the registration for the industry-only Relicensing Summit (Summit), on November 15-16, in Washington, D.C.  The Summit will bring together key industry stakeholders and practitioners involved in the hydropower relicensing process to discuss the issues and challenges, new approaches, and possible solutions to ensure existing projects are relicensed in a timely, cost effective, and environmentally sustainable manner.

Between now and 2030, over 400 FERC licensed projects representing over 18,000 MWs of installed capacity will begin the relicensing process.  These projects, which include many that will be relicensed for a second time, provide the impetus for industry to take a hard look at the continuing challenges for the fleet of existing hydroelectric projects regulated under the Federal Power Act and other major pieces of environmental legislation, and seek improvements in the way these projects are regulated to ensure that they can continue to provide the benefits of clean renewable hydropower for another license term.  The Summit will examine potential improvements in the relicensing process for all projects, but because nearly 75% of projects entering relicensing are under 10 MWs, we will include a particular focus on the challenges faced by small hydro owners and operators.

The Regulatory Affairs Committee and Small Hydro Council look forward to your active participation in this unique event.
