  • 2015 NWHA/NHA Fall Workshop
    October 14 - 15, 2015, Eugene, OR

Climate and the Future of Energy in the Pacific Northwest

What are the lessons learned in the hydro industry from this year’s low flow operations? How can these experiences help hydro maintenance and management professionals face future effects of climate change?

These conditions have created a number of challenges: a loss of fishery resource; diminished recreational opportunities; lower generation; wildfire damage. Other forces are at work as well: a changing energy mix; energy trading; the EPA’s Clean Power Plan; the Power Council’s 7th Energy Plan. What will this mean to the future of energy in the Pacific Northwest?

The NWHA Fall Regional Workshop offers hydro professionals in the region the chance to come together to share their experience and perspectives on addressing current issues. Representatives from the National Hydropower Association and the Northwest Power Planning Council will also join us to provide a broader perspective on what to expect from Federal and regional developments. A detailed agenda of the workshop program is available online. Click Here for the Agenda!.

    Welcome Tour-Reception

The 85-year old historic Leaburg project is located 45 minutes east of Eugene, OR and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The facility went into service in January, 1930 and continues operation from its McKenzie River diversion. The construction included innovative technological features such as the Broome Self-Closing Sluice Gate and three 100-foot long roller gates. The bas relief panels on the building were created by a nationally prominent sculptor. Be sure to note the art deco architecture of the powerhouse rarely seen in industrial settings. A special thanks to our tour sponsor CH2M Hill.

Following the tour we’ll gather at Oregon Electric Station for a networking reception.
